"Jeans for Justice"at the Lee County Library, May 2010

Jeans painted with messages about violence have been created by residents of northeast Mississippi from a wide variety of backgrounds and age groups in conjunction with our annual “Jeans for Justice” fund-raiser. The jeans reflect the individual artists’ feelings about violence in our community. Some jeans honor victims of violent crime, others state facts and statistics, and others send a message of hope.   “Jeans for Justice” are on display upstairs AND downstairs in the Lee County Library through May 31 st.

S.A.F.E., Inc. is pleased to announce that our “Jeans for Justice” traveling display will find a home at the Corinth Library for the month of June!

National Women’s Health Week

National Women’s Health Week is a weeklong health observance coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health (OWH). National Women’s Health Week empowers women to make their health a top priority. With the theme “It’s Your Time,” the nationwide initiative encourages women to take simple steps for a longer, healthier, and happier life. Important steps include:

  • Getting at least 2 hours and 30 minutes of moderate physical activity, 1 hour and 15 minutes of vigorous physical activity, or a combination of both each week
  • Eating a nutritious diet
  • Visiting a health care professional to receive regular checkups and preventive screenings
  • Avoiding risky behaviors, such as smoking and not wearing a seatbelt
  • Paying attention to mental health, including getting enough sleep and managing stress

Bookmarks, pamphlets and other literature regarding Women’s Health are available throughout the month on May at the Lee County Library in Tupelo, Mississippi.  This information can be found in the reference department and across from the S.A.F.E., Inc. “Jeans for Justice” display.  Information can also be found at the Corinth Library in Corinth, Mississippi where the “Jeans for Justice” display will travel in June.  If you are unable to reach either of these venues, please contact the S.A.F.E., Inc.
